Durham School Boat Club


 The Boat Club, founded in 1847, is on the banks of the River Wear overlooked by Durham Cathedral. Pupils from the school have gone on to represent Great Britain at Junior, University and Senior World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Regattas. In the last few seasons crews from the school have raced at Mens and Womens Head, won medals at National Schools, National Championships and gained GB selection for the Junior Worlds, Coupe de la Jeunesse and represented England at the Home Countries regatta. Coaches are staff, parents and rowers in their own right, with British Rowing coaching qualifications, International rowing and coaching experience.

09/06/12 The DSBC Regatta Pizza Picnic will go ahead as planned on the racecourse in the marquee at 1900. If anyone has already made cakes for today please bring them along and we could have a bake sale. Additionally, if you have any raffle prizes they would be welcomed.

12/05/12 Saturday Racing is cancelled. National Schools crews only (+Martha Bradley) will be required for land training 0830-1100. All other rowers should take the day off.

25/04/12 Easter Camp was a great success despite being rather wet! Looking ahead... there are only five weeks until National schools!

07-09/04/12 Ellenya Smith and Polly Megginson attend the GB Junior 16 Easter camp.

27/03/12 Parental Consent and Final Camp Payment are now due. Everything must be handed in no later than Friday 30th March at 0900.

26/03/12 Thank you to all those who took part and helped to make Sundays Easter Bunny Races a fantastic success. Approximately £650 was raised for the Boat Club. This money will go towards the wider fundraising effort to buy a new coxed four/ quad.

24/03/12 Ponteland Head was a fantastic day of racing. Congratulations to Maddie Lowes who won the WJ15B 1x and to Polly Megginson and Ellenya Smith who formed part if a composite 8+ who were fastest crew of the day.

21/03/12 DSBC win their 1st Schools Head of the River Race Pennant. Well done to Ellenya Smith, Polly Megginson, Maddie Lowes, Emily Knaggs and Lauren Cunningham (cox) who were victorious in the WJ16 4+. Special congratulations must also go to Natalie Hardy, Alissa Storer, Kate Gloag and Olivia Graham who came 2nd in WJ4- category.

14/03/12 Five DSBC crews have been selected to row at the Junior Sculling Head and Schools Head of the River Race next week. For further details please see our events page.

14/03/12 Ellenya Smith, Polly Megginson and Callum Clark were all successful at the JIRR Trials and will now go on to represent the North East Region at the JIRR in April. Well done!

07/03/12 Looking ahead... Junior Interregional Trials will take place on Sunday (11/03/12) at Cambois Rowing Club. DSBC are putting forward 5 hopeful crews for possible selection. 

07/03/12 Two wins at Yorkshire Head on Saturday. Well done to the Senior and and J15 girls.

07/03/12 Excellent results at the North East Indoor Rowing Championships last Thursday. 2 Team wins and 9 individual wins.

01/03/12 Sixteen Durham School Rowers have been selected to represent Durham this afternoon at the North East Indoor Rowing Championships held in Stockton this afternoon. For those who would like to speactate, racining is between 1300 and 1500.

27/03/12 Micheal White and Josh Knaggs are appointed as Boys Captain and Vice Captain respectively.

20/02/12 Well done to Ellenya Smith who competed at the GB Junior Trials at the weekend. Some good racing and excellent experience gained.

09/02/12 ALL ROWING TRAINING IS CANCELLED FOR SATURDAY MORNING. This is due to the poor weather/ road conditions forecast for the next couple of days. Pupils are advised to seek alternative training venues (local rowing club or gym). Pupils may alternatively request to borrow a school ergo.

04/02/12 DSBH was a fantastic day of racing with DSBC crews representing in all 4 divisions. Following racing was the annual Ceilidh which was a great success. Thank you to all those who attended despite the wintry conditions.

2010/11 Season

7/8 - WORLD JUNIOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS - a Silver medal  for Nicole Lamb in the JW4-.

23/7 - Home Countries International Regatta - Jess Graham and Natalie Hardy finish their season off with a gold in the JW8+ and then the J8+ including Myles Holbrough and Dan Pearson, coached by Jon Williamson stormed to victory - four golds for DSBC!

18/7 - British Rowing Champs - J16s make final but tough competition - 6th. Girls Four with a Tees girl come in 5th and Jess Graham and Natalie Hardy take bronze in the pair.

11/7 - News from GB Trials - Myles Holbrough missed out on Coupe by the smallest of  margins so takes his place with pairs partner and OD Dan Pearson in the England Eight selected for the Home Countries on 23rd July. To be coached by leaving Master i/c J Williamson. Also selected for the England Junior Girls Eight for Home Countries - Jess Graham and Natalie Hardy.

1/7 - Wins at Talkin Tarn for the J16 boys in the coxed Four and coxless Quad - again maintaining their unbeaten record in the region. Also the J15 boys win their first coxed four race.

29/6 - DSBC 1st Eight beaten by selected Sophie Barat Scule from Germany in the PE Challenge Cup at Henley.

27/6 - Nicole Lamb selected to represent Great Britain at the World Junior Rowing Championships in the Womens Coxless Four.

22/6 - Boys Eight pre qualify for Henley Royal Regatta!

20/6 - Girls Quad just lose to Laytmer in semi at Womens Henley after beating Headington in quarters  - Latymer win in the final. Boys Eight pre qualify for Henley Royal.

13/6 - Durham Regatta - record number of wins (11) and pots for crews - over 40 pots in total. Good wins by the girls quad in Womens Elite Quads over the long course, the boys retain the IM2 4+ over the long course and then split up in pairs to meet in the final of Championship pairs. J16 boys win the J16 Quad and the girls Eight jump in and power to win the WJ18 Eights. A womens coxed quad finished the weekend winning their event.

4/6 - Good racing from the younger end of the club at Hexham but no wins.

29/5 - Nat Schools - Good learning experience for J16 crews, strange aberration of a result for J18 boys and a bronze for the Girls four.

23/5 - GB Final Trials invites for 3 athletes - Nicole Lamb, Myles Holbrough and Dan Pearson.

21/5 - Seniors at Nottingham City Regatta - impressive results from girls - winning IM2 Quads and IM1 coxless Fours. Boys raced very well coming second in J18 coxed Fours and 4th in IM1 coxed Fours.

21/5 - Wansbeck Regatta - younger end gain racing experience with good races and improving performances.

14/5 - Tees Regatta - J16 boys continue winning streak and J15 boys get first win.

8/5 - Nicole Lamb gets a bronze (WJ4-) and silver (WJ2-) at Munich Junior International Regatta for GB.

8/5 - Durham City Regatta - good wins for all J16 boys and girls in the quads and boys in coxed Fours - J18 girls get quads and elite pairs and boys coxless Fours. Sunday time trial event again wins for J16 boys and J18 coxed four and J18 girls quad.

1/5 - Win for Nicole Lamb at Wallingford Regatta in WElite 4-.

24/4 - GB Small Boats Regatta - Excellentt results from those taking part - Girls pairs - 1st (Nicole Lamb and Annastasia Chitty from Canford) and 10th (jess Graham and Natalie Hardy) and the boys pair after an exceptionally close semi making the C final and coming 3rd to finish 15th overall.

17/4 - Ligurian Regional Regatta - Genoa - medals for all crews - gold in the boys four, boys eight and girls pair with silvers in the pair, girls pair and womens quad.

16/4 - Successful Camp - fantastic venue - exceptional hosts and a Regatta at Genoa as a bonus. Well done to all athletes.

9/4 - JIRR - J16 Eight with  7 pupils aboard representing the North came 6th and the Girls Eight with 5 pupils came in 7th.

5/4 - Spring Assessments with 3 DSBC members all showing well and winning through in seat racing - well done to Nicole Lamb selected for Munich Junior Regatta in the JW 4-.

26/3 - GB trials prep at Ponteland Junior Head - wins for the boys and girls pair and quickest girls single.

24/3 - Regional Ergo finals - very good results - J18 girls sweep board getting Gold ( Nicole Lamb), Silver (Jess Graham), Bronze (Natalie Hardy), and fourth (Becca Vaslet). In boys J18 - Gold and Silver from Dan Pearson and Myles Holbrough both with PBs. Silver for Alissa Storer, Bronze for Callum Bain, Bronze for Peachy Dunne.

20/3 - Yorkshire Head wins for Girls pair of Graham and Hardy with a composite Eight of the DSBC 1st 4 and St Leonards winning IM3 Eights. Good row from a Novice Eight with J16s and a few new starters on board coming 2nd.

18/3 - Good results at the Schools Head - Girls Quads 5th and 17th, Boys Four 6th and J16 get experience coming 9th.

6/3 - DSBC dominate the J16s at the Inter Regional trials winning the J16 4+, J16 8+, the girls J16 4x- and with 3 Tyne United girls the J16 8+ as well. Well done to all and 14 pupils representing the North in April.

5/3 - Wins at Tyne Head for the senior boys and girls - IM3 4- for the boys and a thumping win in the IM2 4x- for the girls.

19/2 - J16s get a clean sweep at Durham Small Boats Head winning the quad, coxed Four and double with good rows from the J15s as well. At GB trials 2 boys and 2 girls - Nicole Lamb coming 7th in the single and 2nd (by .4!) in the pair with Jess Graham also racing coming 49th in the single and 11th in the pair. Holbrough and Pearson came a solid 24th on saturday and then in scratch combinations with Molesey and Star respectively came in 31st and 19th.

13/2 South Yorkshire Head results - very good showing from J16s and J15s - their combined Eight competing well in Novice Eights - but would have won J16 Eights comfortably. J16s won their coxed Four as well. The GB triallists pair of Holbrough and Pearson won impressively and wins for the girls squad in the top four and the pair of Vaslet and Storer as J18 and the pair of Hardy and Graham winning at elite. Good showing all round from the Club.

2/2 - As a bit of a warm up for the Small Boats Head crews raced in the Senate Cup against the colleges - wins in the small boats - mens and womens singles and pairs with some really good results for the J16 boys coming second in nov fours and J15s having a good go in their first sweep race.

22/1 - Tri Head v St Peters and Yarm - the first meeting went well with DSBC having the fastest J16 Eight and Four and single, fastest pair and womens pair, fastest womens double and single.

14/1 - Well done those competitors in the County Durham IRC - clean sweep in the girls - with golds in J18 - Nicole Lamb, J16 Alissa Storer, J15 Polly Megginson and J14 Peachy Dunne with boys medals in J14 (bronze), J15 (silver) and J18 (bronze).

11/12 - Million Metre Challenge - Well done to all who took part - the million done in just under 9 hours!

27/11 - Challenging conditions at Rutherford - just to get there let alone race - but some good results - Boys Eights wins Junior Eights, and the girls squad win Womens Novice Quad against DU opposition. At the other end of the country Nicole Lamb won Womens Junior Pairs at Hampton Small Boats Head.

22/11 - Good day of racing at York Small Boats Head - wins for the Girls in the J18 Quad, J18 pair and a moral victory in IM3 pair! The Boys came home with a win in the J16 Quad, the J18 pair and the fastest coxless Four of the day winning IM1. Good performances from the Novice coxed Four coming 2nd and the J15 boys and girls.

16/11 - Vets Head and Fours Head - Girls have a very strong weekend of racing and performances - a good race in a coxless four over the full course and repeated in the Quad the next day coming 9th in a very competitive field. Boys - good in IM3 on saturday - 3rd, but equipment damage hampers race on sunday.

23/10 - Disappointing Wansbeck LDS from weather and racing perspective. The lack of river access taking its toll!

17/10 - Results from the weekend - wins at Tyne - J16s boys quad at Tyne LDS and J16 girls quad at Tyne United SBH with good results from the Pairs Head with a win for Nicole Lamb in Womens Junior Pairs.
